BlackPlastic Design · Terms of use
This work is published so that independent engineers can repair cameras that would otherwise be scrapped. It is free to read, free to use in your own repairs, and free to quote. What it is not is free to take wholesale and pass off as someone else's.
Unless a page says otherwise, everything here — the written documentation, the measurements, the board photography and the deep-zoom board map — is published under Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
In plain terms, you may:
What needs permission first:
Permission is usually a formality. Ask.
Measurements and identifications sent through the contribute page are published under the same licence, credited to you unless you would rather they were not. You keep whatever rights you had; you are granting permission to publish, not signing them away.
If a correction shows something here is wrong, it gets changed and the old claim stays visible as a retraction. A discarded hypothesis is worth as much to the next engineer as a confirmed one.
The written documentation — the hardware reference, the fault investigations and the component lookup — is open to everyone with no account. The photography is a separate matter: it represents a considerable amount of work, and it is the asset most likely to be lifted intact.
So the board map and the original full-resolution plate photographs behind it both need a free BlackPlastic Design account. It takes about a minute and asks for an email address and nothing else. If you want the plates for a repair, a teardown of your own, or to build on this work, sign in or ask and say what for.
The forum has its own separate account. The two are not connected.
This documentation is provided as-is. Board-level repair involves mains-derived supplies, lithium cells, and parts that are destroyed by static or heat. Everything here is offered in good faith and some of it will eventually turn out to be wrong. You are responsible for what you do to your own hardware.
This is independent documentation, produced by examining hardware that was bought and paid for. It is not endorsed by, connected to, or derived from Blackmagic Design, and contains no material taken from their firmware, schematics or internal documents. Product names are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to say which camera a page is about.
